Almost 2 weeks without a post!
Life becomes quite hectic when you have to manage with only one hand.
We have had the first snow of the winter and I suspect red wine sales at our local winery (Bergwater) are doing well.
Needed a pulley to make a contraption to exercise my arm so I asked at the local farmer's co-op which couldn't help me.
"No problem", says the manager Neil, "I'm sure Clive at the hardware store can help". So off I go to Home Hardware.
They don't have any pulleys in stock.
"No problem", says Clive as he digs a screwdriver from underneath the counter and proceeds to dismantle the electric door to the shop. A minute later I've got a pulley and Home Hardware is back to using a door that has to be opened by hand.
"How much?", I ask.
"Bring it back when you're done. We'll manage until then".
Tough in the Karoo ....

No time for a long post. We have to travel to George (167km) for my first check-up after the operation.
My shoulder is less sore than I had feared it would be but the sling is really frustrating and the thought of wearing it for another 5 weeks fills me with dread.
We have had 20 mm of rain since Friday which meant that the restaurant was pretty quiet but nobody minded.

To be able to live in a small town in a remote and arid region near the Southern tip of Africa is a blessing even when it is challenging.
With this page I hope to give readers a glimpse of what it is like. When I can I will post daily entries but it is really hard to be invisible in such a small place and all too often problems with the town's water furrow or a neighbour dropping in for coffee unannounced will take preference.
It has been raining in our part of the Karoo (about 15mm over the past few days) and the clouds hang heavy on the Swartberg mountains to the South of the town. We are grateful for the rain but the power keeps tripping and, in any case, it is siesta time and my shoulder hurts.
See you sometime soon.
Kallie
